Is there a substitute for glycerin?

Not really.

It's used to keep the fondant soft, pliable, and smooth while rolling it out and after applying to the cake.

Rae's right...no substitutes. Are you making fondant? If so what recipe are you using?

I was using Mechelle Foster's I guess I'll have to use something else.
