i am making a stacked cake 2 - 12 inch rounds,2- 10 inch rounds with the 3d wilton bear on top. i am planning on using dowel rods for both the 12 inch & 10 inch rounds-not sure if i should try to use a dowel rod to secure the bear to the cake

any advice would be welcome

For sure use the dowels under the 10 inch cake and under the bear, and make sure they are cut very evenly. This should help prevent toppling. But it would probably not hurt to secure the bear to the cakes below it with a sharpened dowel. Especially if the cake is going to travel. HTH!
