I need help with a graduation cap. What do I use to make the mortorboard, and how can I cover it with fondant? I tried RKT, too soft.

Use gumpaste, roll it out, cut it to the size you need, and let it dry. Then it can just be placed on top.

I have made two graduation caps, for both I used gumpaste for the mortarboard and it worked great. Rolled out flat and cut to about 5" by 5" square. just lay flat to dry, you may have to flip it over after a day so the bottom can dry.

The mini wondermold pan works great for the cap. One I baked the mini cake, frosted with BC and placed the gumpaste on top. The second I used the outside of the mini wondermold to form the cap out of gumpaste(this one is in my photos)

I was able to glue the mortarboard to the gumpaste cap and it was very stable. The mortarboard on BC was not stable enough to travel. Just a thought.
