Hi guys, I need some guidance on how to make cupcakes that look like baseball caps. I like the way these look, but I know my cupcakes won't come out perfectly domed like that.

What can I put on top of my cupcakes to form a perfect half ball? Also, I was just gonna make the rims out of fondant, but if anyone has a better idea for those I'd love to hear it!

Thanks guys icon_smile.gif

You didn't post the picture. I was going to mention domes.

Could you build it up with some icing and then put the fondant on?

If you click on "these" it will take you to the link (she just linked the picture to the word instead of inserting the picture or link seperately... that's why "these" is highlighted blue)

According to the directions they just built up the had with icing.
There is a mini half ball pan out there somewhere, maybe you can use this instead? Just put one on top of each flat cupcake.

The first thought that came to mind is using an ice cream scooper/disher - the kind with the little thumb-trigger that scrapes the bowl of the scoop - to lay down a dome of icing. That should give you a nice, even, round top and it would go pretty quickly. Then just place the fondant disc on top.

For the hat brim, I'd use fondant with a little gumpaste mixed in.

Cute cupcakes! Wish I had occasion to make these now. icon_smile.gif
