I will be making a 6/8/10 carrot wedding cake on Friday that has a tree/branch design on it. I plan to make the leaves in royal icing in advance and am wondering if I can pipe the trunk/branches on the cake after I assemble it there. (Two hour drive and bumpy car...I don't want to risk a cake disaster by assembling it at home.)

Can I pipe black royal icing directly onto the crusting cream cheese frosting or will it bleed?

Thank you for your advice!

Blessings!

Has anyone used black royal on white cream cheese frosting and lived to tell about it? icon_wink.gif

I have had good luck with tinting sugar veil black and piping with it. It is pricey but gave me peace of mind.
