I just recently started thinking of selling gumpaste flowers separately. Actually advertising them standalone and not just trying to convince my cake customers to use them. I love to make them and I find it very relaxing. I know a lot of people don't like to make them and prefer to order them.

So Friday, I had just mentioned the idea to my husband with some thoughts on how to do it, what to offer, etc. That very afternoon, a lady called wanting gumpaste flowers. She is making her daughters wedding cake and they want gumpaste flowers, which she's never done.

I get to make several different types of flowers and foliage and she never blinked at the price. So, now I get to play!

Woo Hoo...I know where to go if I need flowers...it's just not my favorite thing to do. A few here and there is fine but if I have to have several for a wedding cake or something I'm coming to see you. thumbs_up.gif

That's great!!! I agree, they are kind of relaxing!! Do you happen to know how to ship them? A while back, my sister (who lives in Nebraska) was making cookies for a wedding shower and she actually went to Michael's and bought those packages of edible flowers by Wilton. You only get like 6 or something crazy like that, and they are like $6.00!! I told her I would make them for her out of gumpaste for free, but it didn't work out because I was afraid of something happening to them during shipping.

What a great idea!! I'm sure you'll get plenty of orders. I'm with mamawrobin, making gumpaste flowers is not my favourtie thing to do. I'd much rather source them from somewhere else instead of making them. Making flowers is definately not my strong point, that's definately a specialised art. Congratulations on your first order!

The hubs is a genius with his hands (get your mind out of the gutter, girls. lolol!) but there are things even HE won't make. I looked thru your site and can see some items on cakes, but is there a gallery for your gumpaste work?

Cool! I would love to meet you too!

It's funny because it was an idea that has just be kind of roaming around in my head for a while. Then, as soon as I mention it to hubby, an order comes in. icon_surprised.gif We havent' even gotten around to deciding what to make, how much I need to keep in stock, what pricing is all of them, or anything. It was just the first time that I felt strong enough about it and how to make it work to mention it.

Yeah, that's a big one. I've already been working on my gumpaste recipe to make it stronger because I was having a problem with my flowers being too fragile. Until I got that worked out, it wasn't even an option. Now that's worked out, we are starting the ideas for how to ship them.

Of course my mind is in the gutter with a comment like that! icon_lol.gif No, no gallery yet on gumpaste. I just have them on some cake and I always forget to take pictures of the actual flowers themselves. Since we are still in the early, early stages of this part, it will probably be a little while before we have any out there. We are getting ready to do some work on the website and one of them is changing our gallery up and splitting them up based on cake type, like wedding, birthday, etc. I'll probably put up a gallery then for gumpaste flowers.

I think of gumpaste work as my play time. I'm so excited to have a reason to 'play'. icon_biggrin.gif
