Does royal icing stain real ribbon?

I'm doing a cake with real ribbon around the base and have been asked to pipe dots above and below it. I'm wondering if it will be okay to still use real ribbon or if I shoudl think about switching to fondant?

No, the grease in buttercream is what stains the real ribbon...royal icing has no grease in it, so it won't do anything to the ribbon.

Good luck!
