You know, the more time I spend here on CC, the more disheartened I am with many of the people. Yes, there are many wonderful people who are willing to help and inspire others, and then there are those who do nothing but put down others. It's a CAR commerical people! If the girl does in fact have her own business, give her the benifit of the doubt that she is doing it legally, and that TOYOTA - you know, the people actually deciding what is in THEIR commercial chose to portray her business this way. Seriously, a 4 page thread about a commerical? Lets get back to actual cake issues!
Here's her website:
http://www.thecocohouse.com/about.htm
It is indeed in Hollywood, CA, but doesn't appear to have a storefront.
But nothing about her web site says she bakes out of her house, either.
If you look at the one pic, the rabbit in the hat, the background definitely looks like an industrial kitchen and not a home kitchen.
Again, too many assumptions. Maybe she rents space somewhere.
Ok ok ok....calm down. I don't think people are attacking HER so much as expressing concern for the legality of what she's doing. Is it any of our business? Probably not. However, it's one thing to completely disregard the law (or to appear to disregard it, as she does in the commercial) and flaunt it, than it is to keep it under wraps and hope that you don't get caught.
It takes a lot of work to become legal in states where there is no cottage food law. People who have been through those hoops, who have gotten things done the RIGHT way, have a right to be a bit upset with someone flaunting it to the world (in a commercial, nonetheless) that they're working out of their home in a state that doesn't allow it. Imagine if she were from Texas.
Do we know for certain she's running this business out of her home? No. But we can definitely assume so because she said it, even if it is a commercial. Anywhere she's posted about this, she has said that it was real. One can take from that that her entire story is real.
Now, once all that is said and done, is there anything we can or should do? Nope. If she's doing things illegally, karma will catch up with her. The HD might already be looking into things.
But whether she's legal or not shouldn't matter in how each of us does our own business.

Very well said, very calm and rational.
