Italian Buttercream

Does anyone on here use italian meringue buttercream? it does have a wonderful texture ( I just made it for the first time today) I know it doesnt crust but is it a good choice for frosting and piping simple cakes such as sheet cakes. Does it hold up at room temperature or melt because of the butter. Iwould appreciate suggestions!
