Yeah, very few people accuse me of being shy.

Anyway, two tiers base iced, two to go and then the decorating starts.

I'm still making gumpaste roses for my cousin's cake next week. I have about 60 (using JEM 80 mm cutter) made for a four tier - any idea of how to tell when I've made enough? The design has the flowers cascading down the centre of the cake and the roses fan out toward the bottom. I'm also putting in some calla lilies and again, not sure how many to make.

I'm continuing to stress though about my timeline - maybe someone can offer a suggestion? The wedding is 2 1/2 hours away (including going through the US border) and we'll be leaving on Friday at 3 pm. Because Canada Day is the day before, my husband really wants me to not work on the cake on Thursday afternoon and evening so we can take our kids to the fireworks. Because the cake will be done in BC, I would like to have them well chilled before we travel. Would it be too early to crumb coat on Wednesday and do the final coat on Thursday morning? My other alternative is to do the final coat on Friday morning but then the icing wouldn't be chilled. I'll be stacking on site on Friday evening because my SPS system was sent to my aunt's to save $$ on shipping/border fees.

Sorry this is long but I really need a game plan on this one so I can stop stressing and thought this is where I can find the pros on a Friday night icon_smile.gif

Hello! May I just say I have had cake decorating hell week. Everything I touch turns to crapola. Grrr. At least I have gotten things to work out...I am just way behind schedule. I think I will take a nap and get back to it!! (If I can pull myself away from CCicon_smile.gif)

I'm just a hobby baker. Friends and family type. Was supposed to do a baptism cake for my younger brother's 2 step-sons...11 and 14 but were never baptized when little. Then on tuesday morning their mama's water broke with their little bro. 4 weeks early. Wasn't born by wednesday morning so she went in for a c section so now she's healing and he's in the NICU ( only 4 lbs 10 oz ) for at least another week yet from today possibly 2 so baptisms been post-poned. And she was all worried if I have baked the cake yet when deciding to post-pone or not icon_smile.gif Like that should even be an issue for her to worry about. Just take care of you and that little guy you know.

Listen to me rattle on. Proud Aunty here. Look out. LOL

Cherry, is the cake actually due on Saturday? I'd prep on Thursday and base ice and decorate on Friday, but I'm not facing the travel you are. Why does it need to be chilled for travel? it will warm up in the car anyway.

Okay, I usually don't jump in, 'cause I'm a hobbyist and Friday's are quiet most of the time, but I just finished this cake for my sister's 50th birthday. It's my first shoe (and I've been dying for an excuse to make a shoe!) icon_biggrin.gif

After you click browse and find the file, are you clicking the attach button? I take a lot of online classes and there are a lot of people who don't do that.

I've been on my feet for the last 10 hours working on a wedding cake for tomorrow. I'm finally done. I have to drive this one 100 miles to the wedding site. I'm confident I have them packaged to withstand the drive, but it sure makes me nervous. I'll stack them on site, and they're fondant so that should be easy enough.

Boy, do my feet ever hurt.

Agreed! I just got some Crocs Specialists a couple weeks ago. They are awesome and so light and comfy. I do work in my Danskos every other day or so just to give my feet a different shape of shoe, but Crocs are awesome!!!! I've been on my feet for the last 10 hours and still feel pretty good.

Hi - this is my first cake club. I am working on my daughters 7th birthday cake and (of course) am a day behind the schedule I had planned. I am doing a 4 tier reptile cake. She loves snakes and such! I have it filled, carved and iced, will fondant in the am and add all the leaves, grass, critters and the big snake wrapped around the bottom. I hope it turns out. This is the first time I am doing "rough" fondant as I call it...I want it to look like a rock so I gouged out divets in the cake and iced it all sloppy so the fondant won't be smooth at all. Then light and dark details can be airbrushed on. Gotta go to sleep now! Nighty nite ladies. icon_smile.gif

I usually do bc cakes & fondant covering was giving me problems but I think I have it down now, yay.

I was going to start on another 1 year old girl luau cake tonight but I'm too darn tired, it's not til sunday anyway so I'll work on it tomorrow. Having the darndest time though making the little girl, the face & hair are killing me! I made one that I don't like, looks too much like an older girl. It's gotta be just right since this is is one of our best friends' daughter's cake.

I am doing a mickey mouse clubhouse for my 2 year olds birthday but I am doing the top teir pink with minnie mouse ears. I wanted to make it girly for her. My four year old is obsessed with Jessie from Toy Story and I had to figure a way to make her cake girly too, so I made Jessies hat for a topper and then made flowers out of brown and red fondant and dusted them with pink pearl dusk.

Oh, ladies! I'm still working on last night's cake. I spilled water all over my keyboard last night and couldn't get it to work then... actually I'm using the on screen keyboard now as half of my keys still aren't working! It's a 2 tier patriotic themed birthday cake. I've finished my sugar paste decor, but I'm afraid I've screwed up a key element. Part of the cake is a boy holding a flag. I made the boy and the flag, but didn't connect the flag to the skewer I'm planning to use for the flag pole. Is it too late to attach it, and how should I o about doing it?

Thank you, Leah. I don't know why I couldn't find the thread.... Maybe I was looking to hard. icon_confused.gif

I still think the cake is missing something. It's tough to see in this pic, but the grey is actually dusted with silver sparkle/disco/whatever dust. I wish I could love the diamonds more. But by the time they were delivered the box was really hot and I think that may have affected them. And what is odd is that several are hollow. Instead of being flat on the top, some have a deep recess. Like there was an air bubble when they were molded or something.

Well, if the flag is sugar paste, I really cannot think of how to do it at this point.

Sorry to hear about your 'puter. That really stinks.

You are indeed right. I just finished the cake for our cub scouts and gumglue is how I got the emblem to adhere to the skewer that went into the top of the cake! LOL! Had to let it set up overnight of course but it's rock solid now!
