I am making a shotgun shell, bullet, cake for a friends birthday. I am laying 6 6inch cakes and 1 7inch cake end to end in order to get the shape (i am cutting the bottom off the cake they sit flat). I am trying to figure out how to cover the cake so that no seams show. My husband and I were thinking about standing the cakes like a traditional tear and covering it from top to bottom and then laying it on its side. This would work for the red section, but not the gold section. (3/4 of the shell is red and 1/4 is gold) The gold fondant needs to overlap the edge of the red fondant. Plus the gold is 2 6in cakes and 1 7in cake, in order to create the illusion of the lip on the end of the shell. I am not sure how to cover the gold end of the cake, create the overlap, dowel the cake and not have any seams show. Any help you can offer would be appreciated.
