I would like to do a White on White cake with flowers. However I want to give a touch of faint color on the flowers which I am planning on doing in royal icing (kids favorite candy!) Can I paint on these or use simmer color. Will the little bit of water on the brush or paint cause the flowers to melt?

I would use vanilla extract or an alcohol (such as vodka, gin or everclear) instead of water. If you use a light touch with the liquid you should be okay. You can also dry dust them.
