i'm doing a cake for one of my close friends 21st. Anyway; i was going to attempt a cushion cake, maybe two stacked if im feeling brave (she needs in for 50 people..... that huge for me.,..) her favorite colour is red, but she would also like pink incorporated as that was her sisters favorite colour who recently passed away... For those reasons i would really like to have them both on the cake... but they are just clashing like mad in my minds eye! the plan was to have the cushion or cushions and then put a pile of my tobelerone cookies on top (story to go behind that idea.. lol)
any ideas of how to get these two colours on would be very much appreciated.
Maybe Rose and Pink? http://www.wilton.com/store/site/product.cfm?id=3e30b2d9-475a-bac0-5d5c3db846dfd354
They won't clash if your pink is simply a lighter shade of the same red you use. What if each cushion in your pile is a slightly different shade of the same color red? Just tint your icing or fondant in stages, removing some each time and then going darker with the rest.
Or if would rather do just one cushion, make it red but then add a "brocade" ribbon or accent panel, or some "embroidery" that incorporates some pink. Sort of like these:

Or here are some examples of prints with red and pink, more traditional/country than Asian style -- harder to translate to cake, but it might give you some ideas:

(How about a red cushion with some pink/red flowers like the ones in this photo on it?)
