Fondant/french Fancies

I am doing a school project where we have to re-invent a style of cake, making it fun, interesting and creative. I' have to re-invent the fondant or french fancy (small square cakes with cream on top) I would really appreciate some ideas on flavours, decoratings and packaging. For the creative/fun element i want to use popping candy/space dust in the cream , any other creative ideas/ flavours?
