Hollow Towers On Sand Castle Cake?

I found this photo here on CC and in the description the user says the towers are hollow. What do you think they might be made of?

could be paper towel rolls, could be gumpaste made into hollow towers, could be hollow plastic pieces, could be a TON of things

My guess is paper towel rolls or pvc.

I did mine with PVC, but my bottom tier was a dummy so it was actually hot glued in.

Gumpaste. Wrap it around a paper tube that was wrapped in wax paper and corn starched. Let it dry and slide it off the tube -

or just wrap a tube in fondant let it harden right on the tube. This is what I do

Could they be the hollow plastic tubes from the Wilton castle kit?

I made hallow castle towers by drying them on a squeeze bottles took about a week for the gum paste to dry due to the plastic backing.
