I have tried a few choc icing recipes but the only one I really like has 1 cup of choc hot fundge sauce mixed in. I tried just a butter/crisco/cocoa blend and found it kinda greasy tasting. Also, I am not getting that dark brown color I see at is more of a very light brown.
Does anyone have a really yummy choc buttercream that gets the nice dark brown color they could send me? THANKS!!

I never use cocoa, when I make my buttercream I mix in dark chocolate ganache.; It gives it a very complex chocolate flavor. I've always gotten a lot of compliments on it.

to make it browner, just use food dye.

try a traditional bc made with butter, and just add cocoa/ melted chocolate/ ganache to suit.

I use the recipe on the hersheys coco can. It's delish and gets rave reviews - it also has a nice dark brown color.

edited to add - it smooths nicely too!

Get some special dark cocoa powder. That will give you a rich chocolate icing with a dark color.

I make chocolate buttercream by adding 6 ounces of Baker's unsweetened chocolate squares to Indydebi's buttercream recipe. It's a dark rich chocolate icing and it taste out of this world. I'm not a fan of using cocoa powder for my icing. I melt the chocolate in the microwave and add it to the buttercream. I wait for it to be cool but still pourable before adding. I add a little more milk (half and half) when adding chocolate. I just add about a teaspoon at a time until I get the right consistency.

The recipe on back of the Hershey's can gets real dark. I had the same problem as you. Buttercream just light brown. You'll love this one.
