This topic has been debated at least a thousand times. You are going to get strong no answers and yes answers. Here it goes.....

Ace of cakes guy, Duff, sells his line of cake deco. at Michael's. He sells wire. It is plain ole steel covered in whit floral tape. The package says stick directly in cake......So this is a yes....

When I do it, I coat the bottom of wire in melted choc. then palce in a tea straw and add more choc. Then insert cake.

The amazing Shaon Zambito coats hers in choc. and sticks in cake....

Yes, you can insert wire in cake. There are different ways of doing it...

I used wires for the first time this weekend and inserted them in sip stirrers as suggested in the thread linked by Karen421. It worked perfectly. I was using 26 gauge and each stirrer held 3 or 4.

use jewelry wire, nontoxic and stick those bad boys in the cake !! icon_twisted.gif If I use floral wire and real flowers I use stirs and straws and all that good stuff.. but I prefer decos done on the jewelry wire and stuck in. plus there are a lot of gauges of wire to support different weights. in my photos you can see the silver stars I did for my nieces sweet sixteen.

I did that once, before I read the thread on wires and got the great tip on coffee stirrers, with little stars on them. My SIL delivered the cake (it was for his niece) and he inadvertently snagged one of the stars and the wire sliced the cake perfectly! Just like cheese! OPPS
