Our power has gone out several times tonight, and I'm afraid I'm not going to get to finish a cake for my son's teacher tomorrow (last day of school). How long does my cake need to thaw at room temperature (non-perishable fillings, one 2-layer 8-inch tier)? I want to cover it with fondant, but don't want a gooey mess on my hands .... help!

It doesn't take very long for a cake to thaw. I usually give mine about an hour. I also never refrigerate my cakes once I've taken them out of the freezer. Decorated or not.
