But I'm not even sure what to do!

This was my cake last year (cute!): http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i257/emrldsky/Cakes/jadesbirthdaycake.jpg

I just don't know what to do for this year. I want something contemporary, purple (maybe throw in some black), but I'm uninspired right now.

I'm thinking two tiers, or maybe three, with one being a dummy.

Any ideas? I keep flipping through my magazines and looking through the gallery, but I'm still not inspired! Maybe I need ideas thrown at me.

Oh, and my birthday is July 16, so I've got time. icon_smile.gif

Oh that is gorgeous! I definitely added it to my favorites. Thanks!

Now I'm starting to think of some ideas....

If it was me and just for fun I would want to do animal prints like maybe purple with black leopard spots and hot pink and black zebra stripes. I just saw an idea for applying chocolate transfers to fondant that I'm dying to try out.

I think I've settled on a stacking technique, but I'm pretty sure I'll need at least two dummy tiers, lol. I don't have that many friends, and even using real cake for TWO tiers is a lot of extra cake. icon_wink.gif

Anyway, I love this type of off-set/cantilever/overlapped edge technique:

I've found Doug's post on support structures for this too!

http://cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=583854&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=offset&&start=0

Now, just need to come up with the actual design. icon_smile.gif I also need to decide on round vs. square. I LOVE the look of the square, but I already have two round dummies. icon_smile.gif I'd have to buy pans too.

A lot to think about.

Those are awesome cakes! I really like the squares the best but it does make sense to use what you already have. I hope you post a pic when you finish

I think I had an epiphany!!!

So, DH and I play World of Warcraft (WoW), and I have one main character that I play. I was thinking of doing that stacked look, four tiers (I'm thinking the top two can be dummies), stick with square and do this...

Painting my character on panels, but making it look like one of those turnable puzzles.

So, the bottom tier would be her feet, and the painted panel would face forward. The next tier would be her legs/hips, and the panel would be turned one rotation. The next would be her torso, and the panel would face the same direction as her feet, and the top would be her head/face, turned the same as the legs/hips.

Oh man...my head is going going!!!! I THINK I can make it work.

Any advice on the types of color I should paint with? Powder? Gel?

Oh, and this is a small picture of my character (I'll leave the background out): http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i257/emrldsky/emrldsky_idle.jpg

It's done! It's not exactly how I originally planned, but it turned out soooo much better this way! This is just the quick snap that I got, but our friends are coming over with a better camera to take pictures later. icon_biggrin.gif

I am just soooo excited. It was certainly a labor of love, but I'm certain any WoW hunter will see the many aspects of their character reflected. icon_biggrin.gif

Thank you Doug! It was actually one of your past posts that really helped me with the structure on this cake. icon_smile.gif
