Can some one help me procure a recipe for yummy buttercream that doesn't call for crisco?

You might want to try Swiss Meringue or Italian Meringue Butter Cream. There are good recipes on here and also some video tutorials for both of them on youtube. HTH
Here are some butter based b/c's:
my buttercream recipe is simply, 4oz butter, 12 oz icing sugar. and sometimes i add a tblspoon of milk and thats it!
Its not great for decorating the outside, but lovley under fondant or as a filling!
