Help, Coloring Fondant Is Driving Me Crazy!!

When i color fondant a dark color (and by dark color I mean darker than pastel) it seems to dry out and crack more, especially on the edges of the cake. What am I doing wrong? I even bought some fondant because I thought it was my recipe. The fondant is fine when i leave it white, or color it lightly, it's only the dark colors. Does this happen to anyone else?
