This may be a dumb question but is there a special technique to attaching fondant figures to wire?

My sister in law wants butterflies on her birthday cake. I've seen pics where the butterflies are on the wires, sticking out the cake.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks cake divas!

When I do mine I make a small hole in the fondant or gumpaste figure with a toothpick before it dries. After it's dry I stick it on the wire with a little melted chocolate.

I put the wire into the figure while it's still pliable, then it dries & the wire is stuck in there.

Me too -
First i dip my wire into some sugar glue tho - that way as the shape shrinks a tad - it adheres to the wire - thus no falling or slipping down the wire.

Candy melts or chocolate works well

i heat the end of the wire slightly for a few seconds with a lighter, then dip it into edible glue and push the fondant peice onto the wire while its still soft (before it dries!)
