I am doing a graduation cake and using a 12x18 sheet cake pan for the first time? How long do I bake it? I usually bake my cakes at 350. Also, any suggestions where I can find a full sheet cake board? I am going to bake 2 half sheets and ice them together. Does this sound ok? I don't think my oven would do a full sheet very well.

I bake all of my cakes at 325. I really don't time anything. I just cook it until it's done. icon_smile.gif

Go to the craft store of office supply store and purchase 1/2" foam core and make your own board. A cake board isn't strong enough.

Bake at a reduced temp (325). I recommend baking strips ... some use flower nails.

How long to bake? I've not used a timer in years. My standard answer is "until it's done". If you HAVE to use a timer, set it for, let's say, 30 or 45 minutes and check it.

When I can smell it, it's done.

Thanks for the tips. I don't usually time things much either but I had no idea what to expect. I like the saying "when I can smell it, its done"...so true but never thought about it that way.
