I've added fresh flowers to cakes before, but have not done a cascade in fresh flowers before....do I need to bring some sort of spikes to put the flowers in?

Just trying to get a few tips, the florist will be leaving flowers at the table for me to add to the cake.

Thanks so much!

You need to do something to cover the stems of the flowers, you can use the little vial/spikes, some cover the stems with chocolate, others cover with saran wrap. You don't want the stems in to the cake itself. Some lay them on a piece of wax paper, kind of depends on the type of flower and look you plan on.
