just roll out some fondant and use the back end of a piping tip to cut out the button, then you can take a large round tip and push the end of the tip into the fondant circle you cut out, to make an impression of the inner line of a button, then just use a toothpick or something else that's sharp to poke two holes in it.

It looks like small fondant balls that have been flattened.

Oh, I just looked up the instructions and they used a wooden dowel.

So totally easy. Roll our your fondant, and use a small circle cutter to cut out circles so all of the buttons will be the same size. Roll circle into a small ball, and take a dowel dusted with cornstarch and press down until you get the right shape. Poke two tiny holes with a toothpick.
