I'm going to make a small cake that has baseball stitching on it. (similar to the way Sandy did this cake)

It's for an outdoor event in July icon_eek.gif .

I'm a little concerned about putting red on pure white fondant. If it melts and drips I'm totally screwed.

Any thoughts on what will be the best thing to make the stitching out of?

REd twizzlers (they will pull apart- if you are very careful)
Royal icing that is tinted, or paint it after you let it dry.

What about cutting short strings of red fondant?

I would mark it out lightly with a pencil(remember, carbon is used to filter water so won't hurt anybody) and then use red royal icing.
