Could someone PRETTY PLEASE tell me whether or not you can make decorated sugar cookies and then store them in the freezer until they're needed? I have a big event coming up, and I have lots of last minute stuff I'll have to do....and I was hoping to knock out the sugar cookies ahead of time. ANY advice given would be GREATLY appreciated!!!
yep, you sure can!
here are some threads that talk about it...
freezing & using RI
I did it just the other weekend to see how they would turn out. As soon as I got them out of the freezer I laid them flat because the glace kind of got sticky for about 30 minutes. They dried just fine and everyone thought that I had just made them. The glace color was still the same and I didn't have any problems with the color fading.
Yes, you can. The only thing I learned the hard way was that you can't take glace cookies out of the freezer and immediately put them into cookie bags. They formed condensation and looked disgusting! You have to let them come to room temp first.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!!!! SOOO GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!
what about cookies decorated with royal icing? I tried it once & thought they tasted weird, maybe it was all in my head
You take them out of the freezer and don't open the container until they come to room temperature, then they should be OK.
How do you store the cookies w/ royal icing in the freezer? Do you stack them w/ wax paper in between? Or 1 layer in a storage container or bag? Do they get wrapped in plastic wrap? Thanks!
