I frost and decorate all my cakes with Pastry Pride whipped topping. Sometimes though, I want to add fondant accents such as black fondant zebra stripes, or cut out circles in different colors from fondant, etc. to lay on top of the PP. I have heard this will not work because the fondant will break down or dissolve or the color may bleed. Does anyone know if this is true? I'd appreciate any help, comments or suggestions, Thanks!
I don't care for Pastry Pride because it gets rubbery when it dries, but I don't see why you couldn't add fondant onto it when it's already dry and rubbery. If anything were to happen, I'd think the fondant would more likely ruin the Pastry Pride because it's heavy and could peal off the frosting rather than the other way around with the frosting breaking down the fondant.
I have tried this and the fondant did break down and become a stick mess. I would not recommend it at all... go with a good buttercream thin layer. But I am no expert jsut speaking for an ugly experience
"Dry and rubbery"? Really?? This is the first time in my 20 years experience using PP and heard that. Hmmm. I'm kind of perplexed. I've had left over cake from parties that I've stored in the fridge (covered) for a couple of days and even then the frosting was still pretty "fresh". Not as fresh as when I had just made it but not dry and rubbery. Anyone else heard that?
Southerngal, thanks. I just don't have customers who request buttercream. I wish I did, it is alot easier to work with.
