Hi all!
I need to make a basketball cake and was wondering how to make the dimpled pattern that is on a basketball. I see a lot of mats but don't know which one would be best for the basketball impression.

You can buy some screen material and use it to make the pattern. I believe thereis a kind of Tule fabric you can also use.

I've applied dots with a small tip, close together. Then slightly "smoosh" (technical term) them once they have begun to crust. It can be time consuming, but I feel it's the most realistic method. When do you need to make this cake?

smooth the cake with "Scott" papertowels. They look like they have almost a flower impression on the paper towels, but if you really study it, you'll realize that the flowers are all made up of dots.......that's what I used on these cupcakes.

Thank you ladies. I'll try both and see what happens. I'm really just tempted in rolling my son's basketball over the fondant--LOL!! Only kidding.
