I tried painting baby shoes that were made out of modeling chocolate and the foodcolor I used (Americolor) did not penetrate more than a little bit of the top surface. What have others used for this?

You have to use colored white chocolate (colored using colors made for chocolate not regular gel colors) to paint on chocolate.
