Anyone have a recipe for a small batch of sugar cookies? I love the NFSC recipe but don't want to have that large of a batch. Or has anyone ever just halved the recipe and it work okay?

Half a batch of NFSC works fine. So does a double batch, also a batch and a half. Have made all, at one time or another. HTH

I make 1/2 batches all the time, too.

Besides halving you could always just make the batch and put half in the freezer.

That's what I do. I always have some basic shapes cut and in the freezer for any last minute orders (typically seasonal if it's coming up, otherwise square and round can be decorated for just about everything)

If I have extra dough, I usually cut and bake it in fluted circles. Then put it in the freezer, the baking is already done, and as leily says, you can decorate them somehow for about anything.
