So I have recently started weight watchers, and I was reading that you can substitute equal amount of oil / butter in your recipes for non-sweetened apple sauce...
have any of you done this in the past?
I have a recipe that calls for 1/2 cup of oil.... it is my family's favorite chocolate cake recipe.
I am wondering if it will alter the taste much or alter the texture? make it dryer? more moist?
Has anyone any experience in using this substitution?
It would certainly be a way to make chocolate cake a bit healthier (although not by much lol)

I find that the only change you can detect the difference is that the cakes are a little more dense and not as fluffy as with oil, but just as tasty and no sign of "apple" in them!! I would say it keeps it just about as moist as oil does too. Definitely try it.
