(2) 2" Pans Vs. One 3.5" Pan ...baking??

I was looking at the Magic Line pans that are available and was surprised to see a variety of depths-clear up to 3.5". I have always used (2) 2" cakes, with a filling inbetween to make each tier on a wedding cake. Then I got to thinking about using one 3.5" pan-maybe with a collar to get to 4". I thought it would be less pans to wash, stock, etc. Also I think the "sides" of the tier would line up better??
Would a 4" deep cake bake ok with a lower temp oven? Has anyone done this?? Thanks for your thoughts!
