Yet Another Twist To The Cricut/cricut Cake Story...

Wow !! This is crazy; i honestly believe PC has no idea what they were getting into when they decided to make CCake. I trully believe that they were just looking at the $$$.
I sure hope that is not the case with cutncrop, I hope they ship them out on time. I ordered my machine through them and hope they ship it out on the 1st of May.
So, what is up with the licensing? is there going to be a fee charged or not?
I just sent an email to cut n crop asking them if delivery date will be pushed back. Hopefully, I will hear back from them soon.

Thank you! I ordered from them as well.
From my understanding SCAL and MTC do not operate the same. MTC infringes upon PC's CDS software and imagery - and that is where the issue is.
Also this apears on SCAL's add/site
* "" is a trademark of Provo Craft & Novelty Inc. This site is not affiliated with Provo Craft & Novelty Inc.
MTC also used PC imagery and pictures of in their advertising and Demo which violates PC's right to their machine by copyright. So had MTC done things a little differently they wouldn't be sued. MTC lets you cut designs where SCAL does not. The differences are there and PC was watching. Though I don't think PC can hold the right to imagery of public domain.
Will certainly be interesting watching this whole thing play out!

Ditto Here! Thank you!
One of the strange things to me is that PC knew back in March about a licensing policy...
From twitter 3/9 from @provocraft
Re: Angel Policy - still in place for anyone selling using our images, we're drafting a specific for Cake. Will announce soon
HUH???
I haven't used my Cricut for any cakes yet, but I DO use my Cuttlebug embossing folders, and Cuttlebug is a PC product. Ooooh will that be next? I feel like such a rebel! LOL
Found some links you might wish to read.

On this second one, click on beanie 62s link at the top of the page. Its the only way you can read the link shes added. I tried to paste the link here here, previewed it before submitting and her link comes up this page not found. But, it does or should work okay through beanies post.

There's a whole thread about this over here, including the author herself who is chiming in. Interesting stuff...

I purchased my Cake back in March, already knowing that Id be using SCAL or something similar. Now, Im not sure how accurate this information is, but I read on another thread a while back that if you used SCAL (or something similar) the warranty would automatically voided on the machine. Does anyone have any information on that statement?
I had posted a question on the Cricut site about the differences between SCAL & MTC....Stupid me I was wondering why no one ever answered. Well...........I received an email stating exactly that from a Provo Craft representative, and informiing me that my post was being pulled! Tons and tons of people use one of the two programs for scrapping, and don't seem to worry about the warranty, etc. You know, Provo Craft has been on CC......wonder why they aren't chiming in at this point. You can bet that they ARE reading these posts!
So all of us who have a message, "The machine is on back-order" and "you should receive by May 7th" are SOL???
This is very frustrating. I have never bought anything on HSN and I don't think I ever will again.
I had never dealt with HSN,either, until this. The coupon thing left me with negative feelings toward HSN. I couldn't "plainly read on the coupon " the conditions for use, when I never received the actual coupon. I never saw it. They did not notifiy me, as they said they would. I attempted to use the coupon code given here, on CC, but the clock had ticked past the magic minute, and they wouldn't accept it! I won't be shopping with them......
I never get involved with these threads, and I can't afford a cricut so didn't order one... but.....Cuddle bug is the name of my pet guinea pig...don't think I'll get sued do you? Honestly, I didn't know there was a product named that...... just kidding.....
Just got off the phone with a gentleman from cutncrop. He said if I wanted to cancel my order on cartidges, that was not a problem. He could not give me an answer on the license issue, as he is also waiting himself on any information on this. He confirmed with me that the machines would be shipped out on time. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Wonderful news!

Yea!!! Thanks for sharing!! We decided to not buy the carts., too. I went ahead and just now ordered MTC in case the lawsuit makes it not be available in the near future. I also paid the extra $10 to get it on CD in case it does disappear - it was on sale, so it was still cheaper than full price anyway.
Just because I'm about to jump in and get this while I can as well, what do you like better about MTC than SCAL? Thanks for posting about the CutNCrop, BTW. That's where I'm ordering from and I was wondering about it as well.
I just downloaded the latest update from MTC just in case it goes away

I think Make the cut is more user friendly and you don't have to convert to SVG files. You can use images directly from your computer or the internet.
Oh it will still be available only if PC wins MTC won't be able to sell it... but who's to stop them from giving it away just to bite PC in the butt...? Even if MTC doesn't give it away it will pop up on free share sites galore!

I have SCAL and you can "trace" an image into your current project (e.g. a jpg).
I've called CutnCrop and emailed, so I can cancel my order.
Haven't heard from them.
I'm having some issues with a Cricut I purchased in the last 8 months, PC, is useless in the customer service department. Nuf' said!
I really don't need to invest over $300 for that's too bad attitude!

I believe that MTC is for the Windows operating system only. Sure-Cuts-a-Lot has come out with a version for Mac, also. From reading on the internet, Make-the-Cut is more user friendly. With SCAL there is an extra step. You must convert your files using Inkscape to SVG files. (Both use SVG files) At least a few people that had been using SCAL were going to stick with it. They thought it could do some things that MTC couldn't. If one were not familiar with either one, I think that MTC would probably be easier to use. There is a learning curve to both programs, but there are a lot of tutorials out there! I am adding a link to a blog that has posted some comparisons between the two. I am not an expert on this....just learning. HTH

I promise, you can import (i.e. "trace") an image (e.g. jpg) into SCAL. I did it last night
from this:

I made this:
sry, I had to post pics...I'm so proud of my first cake stencil!
EDIT: forgot to reiterate ... you don't have to convert to an SVG in SCAL. you certainly can if you like, but you can just trace an image into your current project.
