How Many Cupcakes To Make For 30 People?

I'm making cupcakes for a birthday party where there will be about 30 people attending...how many should I make?
Is this a trick question?
I'd go for 30.
(People don't usually eat two if there's other food, for example.)
If they are all adults you could probably get away with 24-28, not everyone eats cake....I know weird. Most of my recipes make 24-32 cupcakes, I wouldn't do a double batch, unless most of the guests were kids.
I'd go with about 36. If I use a cake mix I get 24+ if I use the extender I get about 36.
To me a cupcake is like a serving of cake.
How many did they order?
I let my clients know that a cupcake is about 2/3 the amount of a sliceof cake and let them decide. I have a minimum order of 12, and then add on in increments of 6.
I've lost orders with clients so dumb that they've refused to order 12 because they only need 10.... and what are they going to do with the extras?
Well, of course I'd make the # they order, but I always advise brides to order 25% more cupcakes than heads. People do eat more than one.
It's the cupcake mentality, Leah. They're small and cute, so folks think they can justify eating a whole heap of 'em.
I always advise them, too, but they rarely order extras. I can't even count the number of times a couple has contacted me after the wedding, complaining that the cupcakes ran out (like I'm responsible for the greed their guests display). After the first three times, I started writing in their contacts that I had advised them to order extra, and that they had declined.
