I just had a lad email me asking if I could do a small cake with a hand on top of it holding a basketball. I'm not sure that I could even tackle this but am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to do the hand?

TIA

method depends upon --

it would be scaled down to match size of cake, she only wants a 7" round

hand --

arm part dowel stuck through cake into cake drum (stack of 3 or 4 boards glued together and then wrapped in foil) and covered in fondant or modeling chocolate.

to top of dowel -- add a wire armature in the shape of a hand
ex: of armature: http://blog.lib.umn.edu/barth215/myblog/images/jekyll_armature_finished.jpg

then cover it too in fondant or modeling chocolate

basketball -- a ball of RKT (rice crispe treats) also covered in fondant or modeling chocolate
