Here's a picture of the cake I made for my husband for our anniversary. It is a Polish couple in traditional dress from the Krakow area.
The outline is done in chocolate and the fill-ins are done with colored piping gel. I transferred the picture (outline only) with colored piping gel, I can never see the clear stuff. Then I had to copy freehand the rest of the picture because it was too detailed for piping gel.
The inside of the cake was a deluxe DH kit mix "Orange Dreamscicle." It was really yummy and nobody even noticed that I didn't bother to put borders or a message on the cake! It was just for our family anyway...
I forgot to add:
This cake has jello poured on top of each layer. So when I was trying to smooth the top, the icing wanted to slide around. I should have had the icing thinned down even more so it was easier to smooth. Just a tip for anyone doing this kind of cake...
(I used Wilton buttercream recipe on the top because I didn't know if the picture would melt on top of that mousse icing stuff that comes in the kit.)
I love it. I'm Polish. Well, 1/2. My grandparents would have loved it! They were both first generation Polish-American.
