How many dowels do I put in a 6 inch cake? I am making a bouqet cake and it is 2 - 6"x 4" inch tiers (with the half ball on top) stacked on top of each other.

max of 4 -- otherwise you'll have "swiss cheese" cake.

too many dowels will actually make it less stable because of how much they break the cake apart.
