So, I've been working with mmf for about a year now, and I have had much success. But today, for some reason unknown to me, was not one of those successful days. I made and tinted my mmf as normal, covered my cake, and cut off the excess. With the excess, I was planning to make some ribbon roses. I wanted them to be a darker pink, so I colored them like usual. While I was rolling out the fondant, I noticed that it was getting flaky (literally flaky...I could peel off layers) and then crumbling around the edges. I picked it up, re-kneaded it with some shortening, but it was still a mess. Then I thought maybe it needed some powdered sugar, but that didn't work either. Any one have any idea what was going on? Could it possibly be the excess cornstarch that was on the underside of the fondant that I rolled out to cover my cake? Thanks for your help icon_smile.gif

Yup. It was the cornstarch. It got too dry.
