Freezing A Cake

Hi everyone,

I have two cakes to make next week and just got another last minute order...The biggest cake is for my son.He wants a race car cake and I promised him I would make it.
My question is can I decorate the cake (with fondant) and freeze it without damaging the fondant or changing the taste of the cake?If I freeze it should I let it defrost in the fridge or in room temp?
Any help would be appriciated!
