How Thick Should Fondant Be?

I made my first fondant cake today ( I was so pleased) by once I cut into the cake, the fondant on top kind of caved in. I suspect the fondant was heavy, please let me know if their is a specific thickness. Thanks for reading icon_confused.gif

Most people do theirs anywhere from 1/8" to 1/4".
