Usually, i cover my cake boards in fondant...but i found a perfect paper for a cake i'm doing soon...it's wrapping paper...

my question, and forgive the ignorance of it...is:
can my cake sit on the wrapping paper alone such as it can when using fondant or foil wrap?

Hi, it can sit directly on an aluminum foil wrapped board. However, wrapping paper is not food safe but I have read that you can place a cake on a board covered with wrapping paper as long as you put parchment paper under the cake itself. I wish I had found this out earlier because some real beautiful foil wrapping papers (think red, green, silver. gold) with great patterns were on sale real cheap after Christmas.

I like to use wrapping paper or fabric to cover the board. I then cover that with clear contact paper. The cake is on its own cardboard, so it isn't actually touching the contact paper.
