I sometimes wrap it in the cellophane you get as if you were doing a gift basket. Or in nothing at all. Delivering is the tricky part.
I use plastic flower pots since I can find them for 98 cents at Walmart. The only problem is it being top heavy. I just cut my skewers so that the cupcakes are really close to the top of the pot.
I do not use toothpicks, I use short skewers. Then I glue the condiment cups to the stick in the rights position after impaling them in the stick. I always use a heavy cake and foil wrappers. For wrapping/transporting I used a cardboard shipping box and cut Styrofoam to fit the pot/basket snugly in place. I tried using the plastic gift basket wrappers but no matter how much they were crusted it always seemed to mess up the icing.
This is so cute! Are you decorating your cupcakes before or after you place them in the cups?
ARed velvet is pretty dense though. I use either red velvet or carrot cake. I think the WASC would do well too
I want to make 2 of these for my daughter's wedding for the candy/dessert buffet but I didn't want to use cups..was thinking about using the skewers on the bottom 2 and the round heavy duty toothpicks for the rest of them and ice them after they are all on. What do y'all think?????
Btw, what is WASC????
couldn't tell you as I never made them without the cups and I wouldn't try it personally. WASC is White Almond Sour Cream cake

White Almond Sour Cream= WASC
I wouldn't do it without the cups. They stand the chance of falling right off. If you do, make sure you do a sturdy cake like pound cake. I always use skewers for all of mine. How many are you planning on putting in each bouquet?
.....about 80/90ish I think..I have the BIG, round styrofoam ball...the 19.99 one @ Michael's. What about a vanilla mud cake? Does anyone have a receipe for a WASC cake?
I tried painting styrofoam once. It was not pretty...never had vanilla mud cake so I cannot comment. Make a small practice bouquet.

Yea, I have tried painting and spray painting. Just not pretty. Spray paint eats it and the paint was a mess. I would cover it in fondant. Then it is food safe and pretty. There are tons of WASC recipes on here. Never used them so I can't point you in a direction. Never mad a vanilla mud cake either. I would definitely do a practice run.

Fondant is an excellent idea! You are a genius!!! lol
Yikes! Hair glitter? Hopefully not for a cake. Otherwise, I am a big fan of it. lol. BatterUp...why thanks! :)
I was actually body spray glitter. I sprayed the ball, sun dried it and then stuck Hello Kitty cake pops in it. It was cute!!
AI recently took a basket of 30 mini's and bouquet of 7 to the funeral of a friends Mom. The funeral directors met me as I was walking in with it and asked if I needed help taking my flower basket into the parlor. She did a double take when I told her they were cupcakes for the lounge. She had never seen anything like it before. They were a hit. Of course I had to let the children know they were allowed to eat them, it wasn't just for decoration.
AI didnt take any pictures as I was mixing up a banana batter recipe to try out when I got the phone call and it made sense to me to take some there instead of having so much cake here. But I do have pictures of my first attempt earlier in this thread :)
I am about to embark on the construction of several cupcake bouquets for centerpieces for an outdoor wedding. I am going to use the plastic cup construction method- for stability and so we can pre-construct the arrangements without the cupcakes. We are planning on useing 5"x6" pails with a styro-foam ball. attach the plastic cups to the styro with toothpicks or skewers. does this sound reasonable?
also thinking about pre-baking the cupcakes and refrigerating them for a day....so the icing will hold up. The wedding is outside, in Oct. 7pm in Texas....lol. is this going to work or be a disaster. will practice first to see how this all goes....any words of wisdom....appreciated...Thanks...EC
I have a DC Cupcakes cook book and in the recipe I used they use the styrofoam ball, but then you cover it with chocolate and before the chocolate hardens add crushed oreos to it to make it like dirt.
Wow I love this site, the cups are a wonderful idea. Also I did not know what to charge on the mini cupcakes, and price.
Thanks a bunch guys.

Thanks for all your tips on using the cups! It worked really well for me.
AWhen doing the cup technique how do you secure them in the pot? Do you just sit them inside or glue them in???
AI stapled the cups together then wedged them into the pots. Some needed glueing but most of them stayed in just fine!
