Decorating By lisamenz Updated 21 Mar 2011 , 10:41pm by lisamenz
I want to inform all in the central florida area and beyond, that I am starting to plan a cake competition here in Ocala , Florida next year.
I have talked to many persons already with great feedback. I am being back and help with this event with the fl.ices chapter. I believe this could be a fabulous event. We have some of the best talent around right here in fl. I am at the begining stages of this. I have been calling and emailing persons in many areas and districts to help get the information out and those whom want to give input and voluteering and be part of the committee for planning.
We all know that nothing happens without the help of alot of great people behind you. I will be announcing meeting locations and times, for those who might want to know, and also upcoming a Date for the Event and exact location here in my area.
I look forward to any questions from all. Just wanted to put a note out for those who may want to plan for next year. Thanks guys and Happy Decorating
I would love to be informed on the date/time/loction/theme for this event when it gets planned. I am from Mobile, AL and trying to find more competions to enter in this area. I did enter my first cake decorating contest in Feb, 2010 in Pensacola, FL (the Panhandle Cake CRUMBS) and won 1st place in the novice division. Now that I have a taste for competion I can't wait till the next one. Thanks.
I know I would be interested in information! I'll be moving to the Jacksonville area soon and am looking for clubs and such to be a part of! What a small world about the Pensaocla CRUMBS competition, I won advanced in 2009! Congratulations to your win! I saw some pictures and there were some amazing works of art! I wish I could have been there this year!
I'm in south georgia and would love to know about any other cake competitions in Florida. Please keep us posted!
I am in north Georgia and I am really interested on participating on any cake event/competition/demonstration around my state, so my hubby won't turn crazy just for driving too far!! Keep us posted, thank you
Am a hobby decorator bbut would love to know and attend any local events. Am located in the shores area of ocala and find the idea very exciting.

It is going to be exciting. I hope you have checked out our website. If you have any questions don't hesitate to give us a call. We want to make sure everyone has a good time and we all get to meet new friends and enjoy all the wonderful talent and learn more about the sugar arts. Thats what it is all about. I look forward to your entry and passing the word about to all you know from public to brides to competitiors. Just a note of interest. If you want to print off flyers go to www.floridaiced.com and then to information link and then down to the voluteer paragraph and just below that is the link to print off the show flyers. We look forward to meeting you. Lisa Menz, Co-Chairman, Florida ICED Cake Competition.
I did check out the website and read all the rules. I think the only thing I am confused on is the rule about cake dummies. Is my cake allowed to be styrofoam or does it have to be cake? I am nervous about travelling all the way from tallahassee with a real cake.
It can definitly be a syrofoam cake dummy. I like you always do show cake entries in syrofoam. You have the choice, but that is the smart way to do it. Plus you won't have as much stress, right? Plus you can work on it a little each day or week as you get time to do it and have fun and patience with the detailing of your work. Again we are more then happy to answer ALL question!!!! If you don't want to post them in front of everyone, just personel email me
Come join us on our new facebook page created my Co-Chairman Melanie Judge. Come chat and veiw all the new updates. Please go to Florida I.C.E.D. Cake Compeition. Look forward to all our sugar art friends joining us !!!!!!
Hey! I just wanted to post a quick update! We'll be having demos, cake vendors, free cake samples, the competition (of course), and lots of giveaways! The competition winners will get awesome custom-made trophies, and everything benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation!
If you're interested, check out our website at www.floridaiced.com. We also have vendor tables still available so email me at [email protected] if you want to reserve one. It's gonna be huge!
Thanks for the update I forwarded this info to others I thought would be interested. In doing so that had me going back to the web site & now
I'm bummed I just realized that the competition/event is on a Sunday.
Yes, it is on a Sunday. Most professional cake decorators are closed on Sundays so we thought we'd get the best response by having the event on Sunday. Daltonam, you can't make it on Sunday? Bummer!

I attend church on Sunday. We teach our children the you don't miss church for anything, not vacation, not baseball All-Star games, nothing other than...you are sick or have an emergency, (birth, death, etc). That being said, Ocala does have churches too It was never a thought to enter it, someone on here said going to it would be nice & I hadn't thought about that....so I might just have to do a little checking down that way.
side-note, I have family in Newberry & was going to be in the area & was needing information so I called & spoke to Ms Debbie once on the phone, she was VERY helpful to me.
I totally understand about church! We originally set the show time 12-5 pm to accommodate church-goers but people were requesting demos so we put those in the morning.
And I'm glad you got in touch with Debbie. (I'm sure you know this, but I work in her bakery!) If you decide to come to the show and need help finding a church, place to stay, etc, let me know! You can PM me or email me at [email protected].
Silly me. I looked at the 2010 calendar and thought it was on saturday Oh well I suppose I will have to request a day off work monday.
