Wrap a schaschlikstick (bamboostick) in gumpaste or insert wire, so that it is more stable. Don't mess with edible and use fishing line for the fishing line, make sure she knows not to eat it

I'd be tempted to use a little pretzel stick for the fishing rod!

My partner and I just did a Miss Fishing Frog cake (haven't posted pics yet) and she made the fishing pole out of a skewer stick (bamboo I guess) and used dental floss for the line. She also made the little hooks out of flower wire and a bobber out of gumpaste.
