Thanks Everyone!!!! All I can say is we all do our best with the skills we have, we do what the network tells us, and we try to make sure we show as much as we can for other people to learn! We do a lot of things that are not even shown on TV because of time constraints. Thanks all for watching, and hope to see you on Season 3!!!

That stuff's expensive, I'd at least want to take it back to the room and drown my woes in cake!

Believe me, by the time we are finished with that cake, we really don't care what happens to it! LOL
But in all seriousness, this is the way it works. First of all, we are baking the cakes at our own shops before the show. We either have to ship them to L.A. or drive them out there. So, by the time they reach their destination, they are probably already 3 or 4 days old. Then after you get there, it is still 2 days until the actual competition so now the cake is 5 or 6 days old not to mention, the cake is basically baked much longer than a normal cake to get the firm texture so you can carve it easier. After the competition, the winning cake is taken the next day or two days later to the venue. NO ONE wants to eat a 7 or 8 day old cake that has been drug around and played with! So that is the reason that the cakes are not served to the guests at the event. They have fresh sheet cakes there that are cut and served. Thank Goodness!!!

Watched the show last night, and think all the ladies did a great job. I always think about all the stress they must be under to complete these cakes in the time frame they have, but my hat is off to Sharon because she sat out 1 hour and her cake in my opinion was the cleanest in finish and looked the nicest. Way to go Sharon! thumbs_up.gif

Thank you all so much!

All 3 of the cakes were really awesome and different. What I was told by the producers was that the votes were a tie, but the bride wanted pat's cake because of the NY stuff. And that is the way it should be. The bride should have the cake of her dreams, I would not have it any other way.

Pat and Jan and I all left as the best of friends. Both of them were classy, dignified, and very gracious to me. I have no complaints with either of them or their wonderful teams.

But I do have a complaint about the editing I am on a mission to clear up:

. About all that bleeping.

While I am NO saint, and I do let some words rip while I am stressed, in my defense I have to say that the bleeping was actually very overdone. I was bleeped for words I did not actually say, and bleeped over words that were not actually curse words. Yes, I said a few foul words, but I did NOT say the B word nor the F word, as it appeared. I said "friggit" when the pole would not go in, I did not say SOB... and they added bleeps when I was not even talking.

And while I am not making excuses for who I am, and I do cuss from time to time, there was in reality not as much as appeared on the show. Just wanted to get that out there.

They also edited my words a total 180 about the skills test. What I actually said was " I was confident that Pat had won it because buttercream roses are not my strength." and they edited it to say " I was feeling confident because buttercream roses are my strength." Anybody that knows icing roses knows that mine were total crap; I knew it; admitted it, and said I knew there was no chance I was going to win that test.

Just another of many examples of how they creatively edit to make things go the way they want it.

Other than that, everything you saw happen in our kitchen was true. We really did have one problem after another, but my TEAM kicked butt and made an awesome cake we are SO proud of!

Thank you ALL for watching and all the love, you guys are the best!

I always wondered about that, since the competition cake sure didn't look like it was being assembled anything like the "taste test" cakes. Never could see anyone doing the fillings.

OK so then the dirt I was referring to was editing... which really stinks and makes things appear to be happening which aren't. And them telling Pat's team they couldn't use purple. WTH! How is that fair? !!!!!!!
So now TLC is following in line with the same drama enticing editing practices of The Food Network. thumbsdown.gif
Well I knew I smelled a rat somewhere but it's not in the lines of what I was originally thinking.
And Pat Your cake was way over the top creative! Don't take my remarks earlier about things against your teams work... it was about how the show appeared to be making things happen and now we find it's an editing issue. I thought both cakes were great. My initial thought watching it was that the vote was rigged. Editing for drama. I guess if there is some level of conspiracy that brings more viewers.

Sharon I could totally tell you dind't say some of the bleeped words. I told dh that when we were watching "she dind't say that!" It's sad really that they create so much drama. I mean we are cake lovers, we'd watch it without the junk.
Pat congrats on your winning cake. Those trees were so cool!

I think that everyone worked very hard, I can't even imagine how hard it must be! Each cake was so different and now we all know that TV does not show all!

Sharon- man- you talk like me when I get stressed! You made my day watching the show.

Good job all of you!

Well, I do have to say that I love the crew at Ultimate Cake Off. I have NEVER been treated so nice! I was involved in a show on another network, and I have to say that there is no comparison!! The crew at UCO are always pulling for you to succeed and do a good job, they do everything in their power to try to help you! Yes, sometimes the editing makes things look a little different then they actually happened, but in truth, if they didn't do it sometimes, then everyone would be saying "that show is not really exciting, it is boring"!! So they are between a rock and a hard place too! I think if everyone just takes it for what it is, entertainment, then we will all be happy! Thanks again to everyone for your kind comments AND for watching the show!!!! It is all in fun.

I understand why they do most of the editing they do- it's for the excitement factor we all look for. But... to make it look like Sharon said bc roses were her strength? I don't think it's fair for them to completely change words around like that icon_eek.gif Can't wait to watch another ccer next week!!!

Honestly I think that is bordering on defamation of character. To twist someone's words after all it isn't a fictitious script.. it's Sharon's life and she is the face of her business. I would pretty upset about the editing on both accounts.

I think what the show did to Sharon was very wrong. We all want drama and want an interesting show, but to twist her words and leave out words is uncalled for. If I were Sharon I would be pissed off big time.

This purple thing is just ridiclious - so what if all three cakes would have had pruple on them - that was the bride's color.

DH & I still think Sharon should have won and we love Sharon and enjoyed her outburts, the real ones! I swear alot when things go wrong when I do my cakes - dog runs for cover and hubby goes down to the basement.....everyone head for cover there is a cake crisis!

I am looking forward to March 22nd when Jennifer Dontz (JenniferMI / Sugar Delites) is on as a team member. She will be working with the same team that won last year.

We love you Sharon!
Good luck to Jen we love you too - you go girl!!!

I usually disagree with the judges on this show. I have a hard time taking Lee Grody seriously-she was on the show Amazing Wedding Cakes and worked for that terrible bakery as a receptionist. The cakes that came out of there were not clean or well done and she runs around like an Igor hunchback barking orders like she knows something. Watching her on this show telling people what to do like she is some kind of expert annoys me. She was a receptionist!

As for Sharon-they were trying to make her look spunky. But I would be mad as well. And the cake was by far the cleanest, prettiest one there!

Many cakers are members here on Cake Central. I think it is unfair to talk bad about someone who could possibly be listening. It would hurt their feelings.

Leigh Grode is no amateur. Here is her bio:
http://tlc.discovery.com/tv/ultimate-cake-off/judges.html
I've watched her in both shows and she seems to know her way around cake decorating. In the same way Sharon's character was slightly changed for the sake of reality TV, I am sure that Leigh is not the person you see on the cake reality shows.

Actually, having been there twice now, I can say that Leigh is a SUPER nice lady. She has a job, and she has to do her job, on camera, the way they tell her. Really, she was not just a receptionist, she is one of the owners of her business. I am not too familiar with their cakes, but I would like to be fair to her and tell everyone that she really IS a great person!

Sharon can't really "get mad" at the network for editing they way that they did. She can clear things up, and let you all know what really happened (to an extent) but the way they edit, well, that's just all part of being on a TV show.
It's like gambling- you go into it knowing full well that you might not win. But it can be fun, and you never know, so you give it your best shot, and take your chances! icon_razz.gif If you loose, do you get mad at the dealer/the casino? No, because that's the price you pay to play the game and you know full well going into it.

We were well prepared, especially this season after having done it last. We knew what the risks were in doing the competition, and even if you are not a UCO veteran, you are made well aware of the risks, and what power the network has, by signing the contracts. We know that editing is a process which benefits the network and the way they would like the show to be perceived to the general viewing audience. Not to mention, that "general viewing audience" is not cake decorators, it's just everyday people who are sitting and watching, hoping that a real cake will fall (and not a staged set up) during competition. The purpose of the show is not to benefit all the sugar artists who appear, it is to put money in the pockets and receive sponsorship for the network by gaining ratings- it's business.

So while it is frustrating to have to clear up misconceptions, and explain the way things really happened to our peers, its just part of it. Unfortunately, the general viewing audience (who doesn't peruse the cake boards) will take the show at face value. But that's their loss. We actually feel quite lucky to be able to discuss the actual events, on the forums, to those who truly understand sugar art! thumbs_up.gif

About editing, I remember Courtney Clark having a problem on Food Network Challenge making her look as though she damaged a competitors cake and did not. Its wrong to portray someone differently than how they are.

Very well said Deli! And it is true. We knew going in, we signed contracts, giving them freedom to edit us however they liked. They treated our team very fairly in editing last season, so I foolishly expected the same this season. In fact, I was verbally promised by our producer that we would not be edited to look bad.

Well, I disagree. I think I was purposefully edited to look, not "bad", but like a foul mouthed lunatic. The bleeps were absolutelly not warranted in all but one case. They took my animated personality and verbal excitement, and twisted it to their advantage. And yes, it is hurting my reputation a bit, and I am not happy about it. But I am a big girl, I knew that was the risk I took to be on the show. And it will blow over soon. Those that know me, know what it is my heart and the kind of person I am.

As far as being rude, I think that is laughable. Yes, I was very frustrated and angry at times during the show, because we truly had just one problem and delay after another. When you spend months and thousands of dollars preparing to be on the show, you take it very seriously in the moment, and you want to finish your cake!

There was NEVER a cross word between any team members, on or off screen. We all became fast friends, had meals and coffee together... joked and hugged and congratulated each other. I have never harbored ill will toward either one of them for sitting me out. It is a game and they did what they had to do. Sure I was mad for 5 minutes when it happened, but not enough to leave any lasting impact. There was TONS of fun, friendly banter and comraderie between the 3 teams during the shoot, and TLC chose to show none of that. why? It's not good TV. They want it to seem we were at each other's throats, I was pissed at the world and cursing like a sailor...etc.

Let me talk about Jan. Another thing I am upset about, they way they portrayed her. Just like I was chosen to be the "cursing nutball", they chose to portray her an incompetant, poor leader and decorator. Did you guys really look at her cake? It was AMAZING. Just the sheer size of it was incredible. The artwork was exquisite, the execution of her theme was so creative and unique. Maybe she did not finish all of her elements, but that cake was an incredible work of art, just like the other 2 were, just different. She went out of the box and tried something ambitous and different, and look where that got her? The way they edited her, did nothing to help her name and reputation, and I am more mad for her than I am for myself. Go to her website and see her work. She is phenominal. She has been published in all the big name bridal mags 10 times over. She is twice the decorator I am. And see what trying something different did for her? All because TLC chose to edit that way. Her cake was not nearly the mess they played it to be. It was great! But they chose for her to be the scapegoat and she paid dearly.

So hard lessons learned for me. And for Jan. But that is life and the risks you take.

I still feell very proud of my team, and our cake. I have nothing but good feelings for Jan and Pat. We all had a very friendly experience together, despite what they made it look like.

I think that is all, LOL

Sharon, As much as they edited you, one thing you did not come out as was rude. I would have been slinging cake at everyone if they sat me out twice. You handled it pretty well and in no way did you look rude. Upset yes, NOT rude.

I think you and your team did a great job and I don't even want to think what your cake would have looked like if you had that extra hour. You did great!!! all 3 of the competitors and their teams did.

Big hugs,

Hey Sharon, I don't know what other people are telling you, but I had a house FULL of people watching the show with me Monday night. They all thought you were extremely entertaining! Not one person there said anything about you being rude!!! I never saw you being rude to anyone at the challenge, or on TV!!! You were just being yourself, and you don't have to apologize for that. Everyone loved you and thought you were a little "firecracker". I was kind of wishing I had a little bit more of your "fire"! LOL
I did feel bad for Jan, she did also have an amazing cake, I hate that they send one person off the stage and tell them the competition is over for them!!! They don't always do that, can't figure out why they do sometimes and not other times! ???

I wonder if they will start having trouble getting teams to take those challenges.
Who knows how they will make one look.
There was a poor girl on one of those 'who wants to marry ___' things, and they edited it (and even put in sound effects) to seem as though she was giving the fellow a... well performing a sexual act.

All 3 of the cakes were amazing; and it came

I just wish they had not messed with me and Jan so much. But such is life, and such a little thing to worry about in the big scheme of life.
