I like different books for different things

For general cake decorating I like Nicolas Lodges The International School of Sugar craft series (they have a little bit on many decorating techniques, and other great information)

For flowers I like Simplifying Sugar Flowers by Alison Procter. Great, fairly simple, ways of making sugar flowers with a limited amount of cutters.

For recipes I like The Cake Bible, or The Professional Pastry Chef (the latter is written in weights, not cups so you need a scale, or have to convert)

If I could only have one book, it would be Toba Garrett's Well Decorated Cake. Check it out at the library first to see how great it is, that's what I did.
