What Pan Sizes For 100 People?

I potentially have my first wedding cake in the works! Exciting, but very nerve wracking, to say the least. She's looking for a 3-tier square cake for 100 people. I was wondering what size pans I would have to use for a 100 serving cake?

Don't forget to ask whether they are keeping the top tier or using it for part of the "100"!

Oh thanks! I was looking for that...must've skipped over it!

Ok, here's another question. Says a double layer 10" square cake can serve 50 people. That's a TEENY tiny piece! If you go off of that adn the place that's cutting it (it's at an American Legion Hall) cuts them too big...and then the bride is ticked at YOU because there wasn't enough cake...what happens? Do you always go for making a little bit more?

I was thinking like 14", 10", 6"...according to Wilton, that would be like 166 servings.

Or, 12", 10", 8" (if she wants layers closer together)...but that's still 150 servings (per Wilton)

Do you charge based on how many servings Wilton says...or how do YOU determine a serving size?

Most use the wilton chart. Explain the size and provide a cutting guide. If they want bigger pieces then they need to buy more servings!

When it comes to "Wilton" and servings, I don't think Mr. Wilton must have liked cake because yes their chart does make some seriously small serving sizes icon_smile.gif If I have someone that says "I need 100 servings" I make sure I have at least 120 to be safe.

You charge them based off of how much cake they get. You pick a chart and use it consistanly and charge accordingly. Most people use Wilton's because it is more or less the standard. If they want a cake for 100 people you pick the cake sizes and charge them for that.

If you make the cake that serves 150 then they pay for 150 peices of cake, not just the 100 they ask for. Or course I'd make sure they really want to pay for 50 more pieces of cake, that they may not need.
