The other day I was excitedly looking at penguin cake photos here for a friend's cake and each time I clicked on one, my plans got bigger and bigger. I kept calling out to DH about the "new" items and techniques I was going to use. Finally, he came into the room, pulled my hand away from the mouse and said (in a hushed voice), "shhh, sloooowwwly back away, just back away". I did not know what in tarnation he was talking about, so I scooted my chair back quietly and stood up. He then tossed a towel over the computer monitor and said, "there, the evil Cake Monster has been captured". I just had to laugh and give up on cake photos for the evening.

Butterpatty--that's just too funny. Your husband has a great sense of humor!!!

In our family the disease is spreading. My daughter was looking at a copy of the CAKE CENTRAL magazine and she wants her own copy . And she is 11!!! I can't wait to see what she will be doing down the road.

I have come to the firm descision that I can not attend a 12 step program. I have too much invested in over doing that it would be wrong to give it up now. Pirate cake this weekend and need a few extra, ok, it will be an island with treasure chest, a map, and the like. Party favors to take home will be mini loaf treasure chests with fondant coins of gold and silver, cast sugar jewels, pearls. Next weekend is a ghrotto for a mermaid. I work 75 hours as it is plus caking. icon_confused.gif I can not make it stop. It seems that I don't need prozac I need another cake to do. That is my happy spot!

This cracks me up. when my daughter was 8 she didn't want cake at all, she wanted Chocolate meringue Pies from House of Pies. So I went and bought 4 pies for her party. It was the easiest party other than the early years Micky D & Chuckie Cheese parties that included the cake. After that, it got out of control. icon_lol.gif

I know what you mean. I always have a ton of cake left over. My daugters last trwo birthdays I had entire tiers of cake left over nad none of the parents would take any. I managed to convince a neighbor to use it at her bachellorette party as a dessert. LOL. I was thinking of the cake this year and it suddenly hit me -- I could use styrofoam for the parts I don't need and still get my decorating fix. However here I am craving an excuse to make a cake and I have got myself planning a St. Patricks Day cake. Not an occasion I usually would bake for so it is funny to me. That is how much I want to decrate a cake right now. I even ordered a bunch of disco dust yesterday and I can't wait for it to get here. My daughter is busy planning out her birthday cake for this year -- She wants something different every other day so I told her we'd talk about it more in May (her Birthday is June).

I am right there with you. I've told my son we would go to a party store this summer to see what kind of birthday party he wants to have when he turns 5 on Sep 1st. But, can I wait until the summer? Of course not! I've already been sketching out plans for a cake. I just hope I will be able to convince him he wants a Hot Wheels party so I get to go with my design. Of course if he chooses something else, then I'll just have that much more fun designing another cake!!

DS just told me of his plans for his cake. I did the dragon for him last year. He know wants a stand up cake with a skeleton and everything. It needs to be about 4 foot tall, 3 if I want to go small icon_confused.gif , and yeah, he is inviting only 4 of his friends over for gamming and pizza. No RKT and NO STYRO mom, that is just gross. icon_cry.gif OK, off to hardward store. I now have this burning desire to make it. He does not really ask for much or try to rule the house. He just wants this cake. DH thinks it is crazy, have cupcakes. I have a feeling I am going to get grounded from CC if DH has his way icon_redface.gif

Oh you guys gotta stop, I'm sitting here at work alternating between laughing out loud & nodding my head in agreement (I think they're on to the fact that I'm not actually working).

I was making a cake this weekend w/ gumpaste figures & my sweet DH came in & told me they were too good & I was spending too much time on a huge undertaking that I wasn't getting paid for. icon_eek.gif So, my addictive personality kicked in & I did what any self respecting addict would do, I rationalized! I need the practice, I am learning a new technique, & I really had to try the new recipe (even though it fed 100 people & I was making a 2 layer 8" round). He loves me so he allowed it & let me jump off of the ledge.

Another note, my DH was sweeping the cache out of the computer trying to free up space & the computer cleaned out 15,000 temporary image files (wonder how those got there?)!

Thanks for reminding that I am NOT alone!

haha so i just want to warn you all;

my addiction is getting out of control. I have committed to making 3 major cakes in six days. can i do it? doubt it. will i try? yes, because; as dkltll says, i am a rationalizing caker; i need practise. and these are opportunities cant pass up. So come the end of this month, dont be surprised if you hear about the caker found sitting in the corner muttering to her spatulas being taken away....

Well, while I read this I have a 10" spanish vanilla cake in the oven which will be covered in ganache and fondant, decorated with a large handmodeled gum-paste rose, hand-cut lettering and a handmade modeling paste figurine of my parents on their wedding day. Their anniversary is tomorrow and my Mom specifically told me not to bring anything...

I do not see the need to sign up to the 12-step-programm... does anyone else?? icon_twisted.gif

I know exactly what you mean! My problem is the cake shows- I see something and I HAVE to try it. For example, I watched cake boss and saw him make the roulette wheel cake. The next thing I know, I am dead set on making a life-size roulette wheel and board that spins for a Casino Night that my organization throws every year. I roped my boyfriend into helping me. He ended up building a 3X5 raised table that we could set it on so that we could shove a rotating Christmas tree stand underneath and make the roulette wheel spin!

Here's a pic. Yhttp://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd=ie&ar=windowsou can see the size of the thing relative to my boyfriend! Oh, and the cake only "needed" to feed 50!

I think my worst one was my Hogwarts cake. I used three 11x18s for about 15. I wouldnt let anyone out the door without giving them a big chunk of cake to take home. I eventually invested in some cake dummies and that had helped alot.

OMG, this thread is too funny. Last summer for my daughter's 5th birthday, I made a 4 tier scooby doo in Hawaii themed cake, complete with gumpaste flowers, 3d gumpaste hula girls and a waterfall. It was so big and heavy, my dh had to move it.
