Sadsmile what is unbreakable gel???
I can't seem to find the book by Donna Wong - do you know where I might be able to find it?
Thank you guys for all your help
Hi I know u didn't ask me... but I asked that before... I even bought it... It's like royal icing but STRONGER and better...
That's what most contestants use for their stringwork on competitions....
if you search unbreakable gel in the galleries you will see some cakes with UN(unbreable gel) on it..... click on the tinkerbelle one... that was done with the unbreable gel....
Better Yet....

Wow - now thats cool, looks like I have another item added to my wishlist. Thanks dalis4joe
Its called floating extension work - BIG in Australia
Where are all those Aussie girls? Sure they will be able to give you all the info.
A lot of them left CC for other boards. I've seen several on Flickr lately.
Well haven't been on CC in well over a year. I'd say that was "left". I can think of two from Australia right off the top of my head who fit that description.
I've been here for years! I'm not from Aussie though, I'm from one block from the edge of the Earth!
Oh your talking about some who have been gone for a long time... I thought you were talking about recent absences.
There was a group of decorators from Aussie who were phenomenally amazing in their work who used to be regulars here on CC, they're the ones who are on other boards now. There have been a number of absentees here on CC recently though.
ok, I googled Linda Wong looking for the book and there is a porn star of the same name
Pins can be placed around the cake at intervals and a string piped from pin to pin a certain distance from the cake. when dry the extension work can be done and when dry the pins removed. At that point the string should stay put, you can either dissolve the original string or pipe over it with bead work.
This is the way that I do string work. I dip the quilting pins in shortening before inserting into the cake. If a hole can be seen when the pin in removed using a tiny amount of shortening on a small paint brush with hide it.
There are tools for clay work that are great for cleaning up the many broken strings. My favorite is one that has a "quill" on one end and a curved blade on the other. The quill picks up broken strings that stick to the cake and the blade removed dropped strings on the board or smudges on the cake.
